ART MUSEUM
Portland, Mein, USA
Portland Museum of Art is the largest art museum in the state of Maine, founded in 1882.

Today, its collection includes more than 22,000 works of art, and the museum itself spans several buildings that combine contemporary gallery spaces with 19th-century architecture.

Among them is the McLellan House, built in 1802, when the United States was only a few decades old.

Interestingly, the museum’s creation was made possible in large part through private donations from Portland residents. One of its earliest benefactors, Margaret Jane Mussey Sweat, bequeathed her mansion and funds to support the museum’s development. Thanks to her contribution, the museum now occupies an entire historic block in the city.
